About this
A morning with a birding guide along the Lakkavalli shore and, if the water allows, out to the islands. The reservoir is the largest river tern colony in southern India, and from February to June the birds nest on the exposed islands in numbers that are hard to believe. Outside that window the draw is the forest edge: Malabar pied and grey hornbills, grey-headed fish eagle, several kingfishers, and in winter the ducks. Bring binoculars; a scope is provided.

Guide recommended. You may go alone, but a guide is the sensible choice here. You will see more birds and name more of them with somebody who knows the shore. The boat, if you take one, is the department’s.
No guide on MaladTrip has listed this one yet, so it cannot be booked here. You can still do it on your own — the details above are what you need. We have described it anyway: it is worth doing, and we would rather tell you it exists than pretend it does not.
