Cancellation policy
What you get back if plans change — and what happens if the change is not yours.

MaladTrip is not yet trading. This document is published in draft while the company is being incorporated, and the registered entity and grievance officer named below will be completed before any booking is taken.
1. Your terms are fixed when you book
The schedule below is what applies to a booking made today. When you pay, MaladTrip stores that schedule with your booking, and any cancellation is worked out from the stored copy. If this page changes later, your booking does not: you cancel under the terms you were shown, and the figure you see before confirming is the figure you get.
2. Changed your mind the same day
Cancel within 24 hours of paying, for a booking that starts at least 7 days away, and you get back 100% — no fee, whatever the schedule below would otherwise say. The provider has lost nothing at that notice, so neither should you.
Both parts are needed. The 24 hours run from the moment your payment was confirmed, on our clock. And a booking that starts sooner than 7 days from the cancellation follows the schedule instead, because at that notice the provider has already turned other guests away.
3. If you cancel a stay
After the same-day window, how much comes back depends on how much notice the host gets, counted in calendar days from the day you cancel to your check-in date, by the clock in Karnataka (Indian Standard Time). The time of day never matters: cancelling on the 7th day before check-in counts as “7 days or more” whether you do it at breakfast or at midnight, and the 3rd day before counts as “between 3 and 7”.
| When you cancel | You get back | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days or more before check-in | 100% | A full refund. There is time for the host to sell the dates again, so cancelling costs them nothing. |
| Between 3 and 7 days before | 50% | Half back. The dates can often still be filled at this notice, but not reliably, and the host has usually turned other guests away. |
| Less than 3 days before | 0% | No refund. At this notice the room will not be re-let and the food has been bought — the host bears the whole loss otherwise. |
4. If you cancel an experience
Guides lose a day at shorter notice than a homestay loses a night, so experiences run on a tighter schedule, counted the same way to the day of the experience. The 5th day before counts as “5 days or more”; the 2nd day before counts as “between 2 and 5 days”; the day before, and the day itself, refund nothing.
| When you cancel | You get back | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 5 days or more before the experience | 100% | A full refund. The guide can still fill the slot. |
| Between 2 and 5 days before | 50% | Half back. Small-group slots are hard to refill at this notice. |
| The day before, or on the day | 0% | No refund. The guide has kept the day for you and cannot re-sell it. |
A trip that bundles a stay and an experience is cancelled line by line: each part follows its own schedule against its own date, and the refund is the sum. A trek the day after tomorrow and a stay next week are two different cancellations, and you are shown both before confirming.
Percentages apply to what you actually paid, including any discount already taken off. Since MaladTrip adds no service fee to your total, there is no fee held back from the refund either.
5. If you never finished paying
A booking that did not get past the payment step was never charged, so there is nothing to refund. It simply releases the dates. You do not need to do anything.
6. If the host or guide cancels on you
You get everything back, whenever it happens — every rupee you paid, any platform fee included; the day before counts the same as a month before. You did not choose this, and the schedule above is about notice you controlled.
We will also help you find something else for those dates. We cannot force a provider to honour a booking, but repeated cancellations cost them their listing.
7. If MaladTrip cancels
If we cancel a booking — a listing turns out to be misrepresented, a payment is disputed, a safety concern is raised — you are refunded in full. Where we cancel while a dispute is still open, refunding in full first is deliberate: you should not be out of pocket while we work out what happened.
8. Weather, roads and the monsoon
Chikkamagaluru in the monsoon closes roads, floods trails and shuts forest gates without warning. If a provider cannot run your booking because of it, that is a provider cancellation and you are refunded in full.
If the road is open and the trek is running but you would rather not, that is your cancellation and the schedule above applies. Guides carry the cost of a blocked day either way, so tell them as early as you can — and if you are not sure, ask them before you cancel. They know the hill.
9. How the money comes back
Refunds go to the card, UPI ID or account you paid from — we cannot send them anywhere else. Once we start a refund, Razorpay and your bank usually take five to seven working days to show it. That part is out of our hands.
Providers are paid 2 days after a booking ends, which is why a cancellation before then stops the payout automatically rather than needing to claw money back.
10. How to cancel
Open the booking in your bookings and cancel it there. You will see the refund amount before you confirm — no cancellation takes effect without showing you the figure first.
If something has gone wrong and the schedule does not fit the situation, write to support@maladtrip.in before you cancel. We would rather sort it out than apply a rule that was written for a different problem.
