About this
Malnad cooking is rice, coconut, jackfruit and whatever the monsoon puts in the forest, and very little of it appears on restaurant menus. This is a morning through Chikkamagaluru town and out to a village kitchen: akki rotti off the griddle, neer dose with coconut chutney, steamed kadubu, a bisi bele bath done properly, and coffee from beans grown ten kilometres away. Vegetarian by default; the fish and chicken versions of the same dishes on request.

Guide required. You cannot do this one on your own. Half of this is eaten in somebody’s kitchen, which has to be arranged.
No guide on MaladTrip has listed this one yet, so it cannot be booked here. Since this one cannot be done without a guide, arrange one locally before you set out. We have described it anyway: it is worth doing, and we would rather tell you it exists than pretend it does not.
