A monsoon waterfall run
2 days· moderate·Tarikere, Chikkamagaluru
Nobody plans a Chikkamagaluru trip for July, which is exactly why it is worth doing. The trade-off is real: leeches on any wooded path, cloud instead of views from the peaks, and roads that flood without warning. What you get instead is the district at full volume. Take shoes you do not mind ruining, keep your phone in a bag, and do not attempt the peaks — this trip stays low on purpose.
Day 1 of 2
- Morning
Hebbe Falls, by jeep
You cannot drive yourself. Jeeps run from the Kemmangundi gate and the forest entry is booked there — carry ID. The last stretch is a wade in the rains and the water can be waist-deep.

- Afternoon
Kemmanagundi gardens
Above the falls and worth the stop even in cloud. The terraced gardens are the one place here that looks better wet.

Day 2 of 2
- Morning
Kalhatti Falls
The falls drop straight through a temple courtyard, which is unlike anywhere else in the district. Remove your shoes for the inner area. The stone is slick in the rain — hold the rail.
- Afternoon
Hanuman Gundi on the way out
A stepped descent of around 350 steps to the pool. Skip it if the rain has been heavy for days — the steps run as a stream and there is no handrail on the lower half.
